Competency 9: Evaluate Practice with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities
Interview Narrative Paper
Last semester, I gained a deeper understanding of how immigration status and cultural identity influence an individual through an interview narrative. My friend Pia’s story discussed systemic barriers, workplace discrimination, and the emotional toll of adapting to a new culture. Listening to her experiences demonstrated the importance of evaluating how policies and social structures impact individuals and families.
This reflection connects to Competency 9, as it required me to consider real-life challenges through a social work lens. Using this holistic perspective, I was able to evaluate how external factors shape personal experiences. Understanding these dynamics helps strengthen my ability to evaluate interventions and advocate for more inclusive and effective social policies.
