Competency 2: Advance Human Rights and Social, Racial, Economic, and Environmental Justice
Social Justice Project
In my social justice project, I challenged the misconceptions surrounding DEI and highlighted how these programs help create opportunities for marginalized communities that have historically faced systemic barriers. Without DEI, these students lose essential resources and support systems that promote equity in learning environments.
This paper was an opportunity to engage in advocacy in a direct way. I used my voice to take a stand on an issue that directly impacts social justice and equity. I believe this demonstrates competency number 3 because social workers must act in a way that benefits everyone and their right to dignity and worth of a person.
Through this process, I also reflected on my privilege and the responsibility I have to push for meaningful change. This project reinforced my commitment to the core values of social work and showed me how policy analysis, advocacy, and self-awareness are all essential in advancing social justice.
