Competency 4: Engage in Practice-informed Research and Research-informed Practice

Associates Degree

Completing my associate’s degree gave me a strong foundation in understanding how research connects to social work practice. My coursework taught me how to analyze studies, evaluate data, and apply evidence-based approaches in the real world. Classes I took, such as psychology, sociology, and intro to human services, showed me the importance of using research to guide decision-making and improve outcomes for those I serve. I also learned about theories, and the ability to think critically, ask important questions, and seek out reliable information to support my work in the field.

This connects to Competency 4 because social work is all about learning what actually helps people and making decisions based on that knowledge. My education showed me how important it is to question what works, look at the bigger picture using best practices.
